November 22, 1963: Where Were You?

I was in Mexico and remained stranded there for 3 long, excruciating days. Initially, the stories were conflicting, mostly second or third hand from limited Mexican TV news coverage. Long distance phone lines were tied up for days.

More later.

  1. I was at my desk at the Lipsett Steel Products Company scrap metal years posting invoices to the accounts payable ledger. Granted, not very romantic but there it is. It was a Friday and I was looking forward to meeting my friend Ron Hampton for a Friday night at the Westbury Bar in Philadelphia. My boss Charlie Ash came out of his office and told me that Kennedy had been shot. My first reaction was "Will this interfere with my weekend plans?" Such is the selfishness and arrogance of youth. By the way, it did interfere with my weekend......big time. I canceled my trip to Philadelphia and stayed glued to the TV all weekend. The rest is history.

  2. I was in school. We were in the middle of a class. Suddenly the PA system came on. The principal quickly and quietly told us the news and then switched the PA to broadcast the news on the radio. The school sat in stunned silence.
