House Votes to Hold Rove in Contempt

This just received from Robert Greenwald at Brave New Films:
Dear ******,

The campaign to Send Karl Rove to Jail just took a huge step forward! In a stunning action just minutes ago, the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Rove in contempt.

Brave New Films and our partners have been working steadily to maximize the impact of the petition. And we want to continue this fight, so please contribute so we can.

Let's take a look at the campaign so far:

  • 12 Days Ago: We launched Send Rove to Jail. You immediately recognized a crucial chance to hold Rove accountable for flagrantly breaking the law and you seized it, raising over 40,000 signatures in 24 hours!
  • 9 Days Ago: CREDO Mobile took note of your efforts. They hopped on board and sent the petition to their subscribers, garnering tens of thousands more signatures.
  • 5 Days Ago: We hit the 100,000 signature milestone, causing even more progressive groups to get involved, including Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, The Nation, Campaign for America's Future, Progress Now, and People for the American Way, the last of whom alone generated another 15,000 signatures.
  • Yesterday: Brave New Films Editorial Director ZP Heller hand delivered three petition boxes containing over 127,000 signatures to the House Judiciary Committee in Washington D.C. Together with our partners, we took our message directly to HJC member Linda Sanchez (D-CA), who was impressed by the sheer number of signatures. "I think it's ridiculous that Karl Rove thinks that he doesn't have to follow the law," Sanchez said. "And nobody in this country should be above the law."
  • Today: Sanchez led the HJC in a vote of contempt for Rove!
In just 12 days, your ability to sign and spread our petition led us from merely pointing out Rove's lawbreaking hubris to helping convince the HJC to vote him in contempt.

Now help us take this fight to the full House. Contribute here so Brave New Films can remain vigilant in this battle. For it is not just about Rove; his case raises larger critical issues of holding lawbreakers accountable and advocating justice within the framework of our legal system.

Yours,
Robert Greenwald
and the Brave New team

We can do a lot with a little as long as we do it in numbers and together. Frankly, I had doubts that the House would go there. Surprise! Surprise!

And so it goes.

  1. Great work - you all should be proud.

I sent you an e-mail and links to another set of campaigns regarding the situation in Louisiana.

I signed that petition as well as added a few remarks of my own.

I likened the entire Katrina incident, to an 'act of terror' by the Bush administration.

These people were in terror; the 'terror' caused by a hurricane, but COMPOUNDED by the lack of action and continued disregard for their plight. These people live in fear; worry - strife and plight .. wearing them down further as they struggle to stay alive.

This type of pressure is 'terror' to the normal human being - terror that the Bush administration has seemed to almost thrive on. I'm wondering if Bush has thought that the young people of this area, might 'volunteer' for his military - that he could FORCE THEM to join. After all, what could be worse - dying and struggling in Louisiana, or doing the same in a war that was illegal and unjust.

Are they hoping to press these young men and women into service to be dispatched to Afghanistan - maybe Iran if they start a conflict there?

On a lighter subject: Love your new photo - the hat looks great on you!

  2. I second Happy in Nevada's comment on the hat. It looks great on you. Great photo. Captures your personality. A smile is just a frown turned upside down. Keep smiling!

  3. Then again, Wayne could keep his frown and stand on his head - would that work???

    Teasing, teasing, teasing.

Guess you can expect a women to 'tease' - to always 'mess it up', and though we often do, we sometimes do it to 'kiss and make up'.

In your case - hmmmm, that's right, I'm talking to a 'gay guy'; responding to another 'gay one' too. However, I must remind you both, that once 'gay' meant 'joyous/happy', and only in the past 40 years or so, has it almost been replaced by the more accepted meaning that applies to a person's sexual preference.

What I'm wondering is, how did 'straight' become the slang term for one who likes the opposite sex??? Have either of you got the clue on that one - or the low-down???

And how did 'low-down' become the 'inside' and the 'scoup' and 'the story', and all those terms we use completely outside of their proper and accepted meaning.

Hmmmm - now that would be a fun blog (or worthy of a few entries) as one explains the origin of slang; and its evolution.

By the way, I must say I'm enjoying the Alternet link as well as the Crooks and Liars - you've got some good stuff here, Wayne (or is that Maynard). Smile again, I just had a great lunch; a nice cold beer, and I'm a little 'bubbly'.

    Diane
