Til Labor Day ends another summer season at the beach. It's astonishing how quickly the summer has flown by.
Not only are the store ads and weekly flyers touting back-to-school crap, but the Halloween decorations are beginning to rear their ugly heads, too. Can't we at least get through Labor Day and the kids going back to school before we hawk Halloween junk? Just askin'.
Clothing stores are displaying their Fall and Winter rags while heavily discounting the summer items on "clearance" racks and tables. Sad, so sad. But a very good time to stock up for next year, if you have the space.
At this rate, perhaps by Labor Day the Halloween candies and ghosts will be passe and room will be made for over-the-top Christmas do-dads and Chanukah candles.
Retailers keeps pushing the season sales (which are not really sales at all) back earlier and earlier and maybe pretty soon they'll catch up to real time again - though I doubt it.
At least here at the beach no one is paying much attention to this out-of-touch, future consumerism BS. Everyone is into their boogie-boards, cheap beach chairs and umbrellas, festive sunglasses, and summer hats - all at great low prices. So there you have it. Consumerism yes, but the "here-and-now" kind at its best.
But, it seems to me that retailers 'win' by 'losing' in this game...what to I know.
Yesterday, after a long day - brunch and lunch - I indulged in a mango margarita as my AS cocktail. It was my first, it was OK, but I'll probably not have another one any time soon. We live and learn.
One workday to go before my precious free day on Tuesday. Few items on the gay agenda for that day so if the weather cooperates I may seek out an adventure, or two.
More later.
