The Senate Insurance Committee reported SB121 (the non-discrimination bill) out of committee by a vote of 5 YES and 0 NO on Wed, June 17th!A bit of good news in an otherwise disappointing week for our community. Do what you can to help.
Similar bills have been known HB99, HB36, HB5. This bill would add the term “sexual orientation” to the already-existing list of prohibited practices of discrimination -- forbidding discrimination against a person on the basis of sexual orientation in housing, employment, public works contracting, public accommodations, and
insurance.
Next steps...
The full Senate is scheduled to debate and vote on the bill Tues, June 23, 2009 at Leg Hall in Dover. The public is welcome to attend - just bring your photo id.
IF there is a majority vote in the Senate in favor of this bill, it will move to the House for a vote. IF there is a majority vote in the House, the bill would go to the Governor's desk for signature.

Thank you for supplying this information. I'll call tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I see where our senator (Gary Simpson) still is not supporting the bill. Keep this in mind during the next election. Actions have consequences.
ReplyDeleteI've met Simpson. Nice smile with the personality of a potato pudding.
