The rain began over night and continued to increase all day. Now the winds are really picking up to the point that most of the thick sea grasses - some as thick as bamboo - are almost horizontal outside the window. The noise of the rain beating against the windows coupled with the leaves and small branches flying everywhere is disquieting. I usually love the sound of rain beating on the outside of the house or on a roof, but this is an angry rain.
It could have been worse, in fact. There were warnings last night about possible evacuations of the lower areas (which is where I live) if Hanna skimmed the coast rather than making landfall in the Carolinas.
Well, Pam over at Pam's House Blend reported that Hanna made landfall in NC this morning at 3:40 - and she was blogging about it at 3:43. What a woman!
This means we've been spared the full effect of the storm, but this is little comfort as we're now warned about locally forming tornadoes until 9 o'clock this evening. As the wind grows stronger there is a good chance that I'll lose electric power.
As a matter of fact I've just lost the satellite signal so thanks to the incredibly heavy windswept rain, there's no more Weather Channel.
Yes, I have all the necessities at hand and I've even finished cooking the stroganoff, so I have supper.
I pray the sister and her krewe got back to NOLA safely even though they will not have power for a while. I haven't received a phone call heralding their arrival, but these NOLA folks are a hardy, if stubborn lot.
Interestingly there is no lightening with this storm. I better post this in case the power is disrupted.

All this sounds so familiar, but not being on the Ocean, it's hard to imagine how angry the waves could become.
