Gaudete - Erasure Video

A chilling, beautiful animation to accompany a great song from their new album.  Any gay man who ever served in the Church will identify with this video.

Turn off the room lights, turn up the speaker volume and watch carefully.  There is much to learn.

Lyrics:

Refrain. Gaudete, Gaudete! Christus es natus Ex Maria virgine, Gaudete!

1. Tempus ad est gratiae, Hoc quod optabamus; Carmina laetitiae, Denote redamus.

2. Deus homo factus est, Natura mirante; Mundis renovatus est A Christo regnante.

3. Ezechiellis porta, Clausa per transitur; Unde lux est orta Salus invenitur.

4. Ergo nostra cantio, Psallat iam in lustro; Benedicat Domino; Salus regi nostro.

~~~~~~
I survived recovered from the Catholic Church…
And so it goes.
  1. Yes, it's an intriguing and haunting little video, isn't it? (After having played it twice.)
    The 'Steeleye Span' version of this same medieval carol reached our #14 here in 1973.
    As someone brought up in Church Latin it's difficult to put aside the pronounciations one was made to use as a boy - no soft 'g's, and 'v' is always pronounced as 'w'. It gets into one's blood - and ever since that time of 60 years or so ago, anything not abiding by those 'rules' still sounds wrong. But I suppose the truth is that there is no categorical right or wrong historically as there were almost certainly regional variations in application.
    But thanks for the video - I wouldn't have been aware of it if you hadn't posted.
